San Francisco Animal Care & Control is asking pet guardians to keep pets indoors, in a quiet, secure, escape-proof room, during 4th of July celebrations. Fireworks can be terrifying for animals, and the 4th of July can be a busy time for animal shelters taking in lost pets. Please make sure your pet has an identification tag and/or a microchip.
Keep a current photo of your pet handy (just in case) and consider providing treats (like a frozen Kong) to keep dogs busy and distracted.
If your pet is lost, check www.petharbor.com for animals taken to shelters, and visit Animal Care & Control to look through lost pet areas.
Animal Care & Control is closed on Thursday, July 4. The shelter will reopen on Friday, July 5, at 12:00 Noon. Animal Care & Control is located at 1200 15th Street (at Harrison) in San Francisco.
